The September Green Market is the 10th of September in conjunction with Second Saturdays. John Wesley Miller Companies will have a display of our thermal mass wall and will have handouts and other displays talking about GREEN. We look forward to seeing you there and answering questions involving energy efficient remodelling and custom homes.

May 11 — Alliance of Construction Trades — 2011 Annual Construction Industry Trade Show. We will be at the show representing both John Wesley Miller Companies and the Southern Arizona Green Chamber of Commerce with information on remodeling and sustainable construction methods. The show is located at Hotel Tucson (formerly Inn Suites) and is from 3-7 pm. Open to all in the construction industry.

May 4 — Walking the Talk — Tales in Sustainability. As part of Sustainability Seminars 2011 at Academy Village, John will speak about sustainability in residential and commercial buildings, using his own work as examples — such as Armory Park del Sol. He will emphasize the “dollarsense” that goes along with sustainability’s WaterSense and EnergySmart, and he will outline innovations that make “green” work well for owners, developers and communities.

May 3 – Conserving Biodiversity in Development Workshop - American Planning Association, Arizona Chapter. John will participate in a roundtable discussion panel discussing conserving or restoring the unique natural features inherent on every parcel of land and how that benefits the local environment, property owners and the country’s heritage. The workshop is a continuing education course and is an all day event. Registration information is available here.

This continuing education course is devoted to defining, recognizing, restoring, and managing residential communities for biodiversity within the urban and rural matrix. The places we live are dominated by buildings and/or agriculture, but they still offer opportunities to improve biodiversity and to minimize our consumption of natural resources. This course focuses on residential, small commercial and rural design and management at the subdivision or large-lot scale. Information presented can be used to ‘retrofit’ existing urban communities as well as to conserve or restore rural properties that are not designated for subdivision.

A 145 page resource manual and local resources supplement will be given to participants. This resource manual contains many case examples and resources for participants. A number of different references come from published articles, books, and web sites.
