Hawthorn House — Remodel in Sam Hughes
Built in 1962, John Wesley Miller acquired the property in 2007. John renovated the home for optimal energy efficiency. Using additional insulation to achieve the efficiency of Thermal Mass storage construction, he also added Low E windows, a Photovoltaic solar system, new doors, EnergyStar appliances, a tankless water heater, porcelain tile flooring, an alarm system, bringing the home up to date. Additionally, a block wall surrounding the patio and a fully insulated 2 car garage were also built.
The unique floor plan is wheelchair accessible, featuring a master bedroom with separate entrance ideal for use as a home office. Bathrooms feature Kohler fixtures, one with a roll-in shower. Kitchen has cherry cabinets and french doors with sidelights open to the wrap-around patio.
The family friendly neighborhood known for its charming architecture was designated as historic in 1994. Original builders in the mile large community include John W. Murphy, Josias Joesler, and architect Roy O. Place. Centrally located, many attractions are within walking distance.
